Key takeaways
- On our plans, AI calling costs ₹6–8 per minute plus GST, billed in 30-second pulses, with unanswered calls not billed. A two-minute sales conversation costs about ₹12–16.
- Setup (₹25,000–₹2,00,000), phone numbers (₹2,000 per number per month) and monthly minimums matter as much as the rate.
- Global self-serve platforms list $0.05–0.14 per minute for their own layer, often with language model, voice and telephony billed separately.
- Compare AI calling with telecallers and BPOs per conversation and per outcome, not per salary or per seat.
- Budget from your lead volume, connect rate and call length, then check the result against plan minimums.
AI calling cost in India comes down to a few lines on an invoice: a per-minute rate, a one-time setup fee, phone numbers, sometimes extra agents and integrations, and 18% GST. The rate gets the attention, but the billing unit, the monthly minimum and what is bundled decide your real bill. This guide uses our own published prices, three worked budgets and sourced global benchmarks, so you can check every number.
How much does AI calling cost in India in 2026?
On our plans, AI calling costs ₹6–8 per answered minute plus 18% GST, depending on the plan, billed in 30-second pulses. A two-minute sales conversation costs roughly ₹12–16 and a short confirmation call ₹3–8. Add a one-time setup fee, phone number rental and a monthly minimum of 3,000–10,000 minutes, depending on the plan.
The AI calling price you see on a website is rarely the price per call, because calls vary so much in length. A wrong-number pickup lasts a few seconds. A COD confirmation lasts under a minute. A real-estate enquiry that ends in a site-visit booking can run two to three minutes. So the useful question is what each type of call costs.
What does each type of call cost?
| Call type | Typical length | Billed as (30s pulses) | Cost at ₹6.50/min | Cost at ₹8/min |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unanswered call | — | Not billed | ₹0 | ₹0 |
| Short pickup, wrong person, "call later" | Under 30 seconds | 0.5 min | ₹3.25 | ₹4 |
| Confirmation or reminder | 31–60 seconds | 1 min | ₹6.50 | ₹8 |
| Event invitation | 40–45 seconds | 1 min | ₹6.50 | ₹8 |
| Lead qualification / sales conversation | About 2 minutes | 2 min | ₹13 | ₹16 |
| Detailed enquiry with booking | 2.5–3 minutes | 2.5–3 min | ₹16–20 | ₹20–24 |
All figures exclude 18% GST.
These lengths come from our own calls. Between May and October 2026 our platform handled 47,731 calls for several Indian businesses, mostly in real estate, with some health and wellness and B2B. A large share of July–August volume was short scripted event invitations of 40–45 seconds, while recent sales conversations in October ran around two minutes (median about 122 seconds, on a small sample). Campaign types were mixed, and call lengths vary by industry, list quality and time of day, so treat these as a starting point for your own estimate.
What are you actually paying for?
An AI calling bill covers six things: the minutes your agent spends on calls, a one-time setup to build and test the agent, phone numbers, the number of agents, integrations with your systems, and the underlying telephony, speech recognition, language model and voice. Some providers bundle these into one rate; others bill each separately.
Per-minute usage
This is the AI calling per minute cost most people compare when they first look up AI calling cost in India. With a managed service like ours, the per-minute rate covers the call itself, so you do not see separate lines for speech recognition, the language model, the voice or the phone network. On self-serve platforms, those usually appear as separate charges, which we cover in the global section below.
One-time setup
Setup pays for the work before the first live call: turning your scripts, FAQs and project facts into short conversational turns, configuring languages, connecting lead sources, and testing with your team. Ours runs from ₹25,000 (Starter) to ₹2,00,000 (Enterprise). Self-serve platforms generally have no setup fee because your team does this work.
Phone numbers
You need numbers to call from and for customers to call back on. We charge ₹2,000 per number per month. For a sense of the raw telecom cost underneath, Plivo's India voice pricing lists domestic numbers at ₹200 a month and domestic calls at ₹0.38 a minute in 30-second pulses. Ask any provider what its own number fee covers.
Agents
One agent per project or product keeps facts separate. We learned this the hard way with Koravi Developers, a plotted-development company in North Karnataka: in an early setup, one agent loaded facts from several projects and mixed up prices and locations between them. Each project now has its own agent with its own locked facts. Our plans include 1, 2 or 4 agents; extra agents cost ₹25,000 each on Starter and Growth and ₹20,000 each on Scale and Enterprise.
Integrations
Google Sheets, Facebook and Instagram lead ads and CSV uploads are the common lead sources. Connecting a CRM or order system via webhooks counts as an integration. Starter includes none, Growth one, Scale two and Enterprise up to five.
Telephony, speech and voice components
Every AI call runs on four technical layers: telephony (the phone call), speech-to-text (hearing the caller), a language model (deciding what to say) and text-to-speech (saying it). Indian component providers publish rupee prices; Sarvam AI's API pricing, for example, lists speech-to-text at ₹30 per hour of audio and its Bulbul v3 text-to-speech at ₹30 per 10,000 characters. With a managed service these components are bundled into the per-minute rate, alongside the work of building, testing and running agents that sound right on Indian calls.
Support and GST
Faster support costs more: our support reply times range from one working day on Starter to one hour for critical issues on Enterprise. All our prices are plus 18% GST.
| Cost component | How it is usually billed | On our plans (+ 18% GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Call minutes | Per minute, by billing increment | ₹6–8/min, 30-second pulses, unanswered not billed |
| Monthly minimum | Committed minutes per month | 3,000 / 5,000 / 10,000 / 10,000 minutes |
| Setup | One time | ₹25,000 to ₹2,00,000 |
| Phone numbers | Per number per month | ₹2,000 |
| Extra agents | Per agent | ₹25,000 (Starter, Growth), ₹20,000 (Scale, Enterprise) |
| Integrations | Included count or per integration | 0 / 1 / 2 / up to 5 included |
| Telephony, speech, model, voice | Bundled, or per component on self-serve | Included in the per-minute rate |
How does 30-second pulse billing change your bill?
Pulse billing rounds each answered call up to the next 30 seconds instead of the next full minute. On short calls the saving is large: a 70-second call is billed as 1.5 minutes rather than 2. Combined with not billing unanswered calls, pulse billing keeps the cost of short pickups, reminders and confirmations low.
Here is the same set of calls under three common billing methods, at ₹8 per minute.
| Actual call length | Full-minute rounding | 30-second pulses | Per-second |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 seconds | ₹8.00 | ₹4.00 | ₹2.67 |
| 45 seconds | ₹8.00 | ₹8.00 | ₹6.00 |
| 70 seconds | ₹16.00 | ₹12.00 | ₹9.33 |
| 125 seconds | ₹24.00 | ₹20.00 | ₹16.67 |
| Unanswered | Depends on provider | ₹0 (our plans) | Depends on provider |
Per-second billing looks cheapest in this table, and at the same rate it is. Rates are rarely the same, though. A provider with per-second billing and a higher rate can cost more than one with pulses and a lower rate, so always compare billed cost on a realistic mix of your own call lengths, not the increment alone.
Ask any provider to bill your last month of call recordings (or a sample of 200 calls) under their pricing. A real call-length mix settles the pulse vs per-second vs per-minute debate in five minutes.
What do our AI calling plans cost?
Our four plans differ by per-minute rate, monthly minimum, included agents and integrations, and support speed. Starter needs a ₹25,000 setup and a ₹24,000 monthly minimum; Scale drops the rate to ₹6.50 a minute with a 10,000-minute minimum, and Enterprise keeps ₹6.50 on a 15,000-minute bundle with six agents and a named manager. Rates below that are priced on custom volumes. All prices are plus 18% GST, and every plan adds ₹2,000 per phone number per month.
| Plan | Setup (one time) | Monthly minimum | Rate | Agents included | Extra agent | Integrations | Support |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹25,000 | 3,000 min = ₹24,000 | ₹8/min | 1 | ₹25,000 | None | Reply within 1 working day |
| Growth | ₹50,000 | 5,000 min = ₹35,000 | ₹7/min | 2 | ₹25,000 | 1 | Reply within 8 working hours |
| Scale | ₹1,00,000 | 10,000 min = ₹65,000 | ₹6.50/min | 4 | ₹20,000 | 2 | Within 4 working hours + monthly review |
| Enterprise | ₹2,00,000 | 15,000 min = ₹97,500 | ₹6.50/min | 6 | ₹20,000 | Up to 5 | Named manager, critical issues within 1 hour |
All plans: + 18% GST; numbers ₹2,000 per number per month. Full details are on our pricing page.
What would three different businesses pay?
Using our real plan prices, a small coaching institute with about 1,200 enquiries a month would pay around ₹30,700 a month including GST, a two-project real-estate developer around ₹46,000, and a multi-city D2C brand running four call types around ₹77,900. These are hypothetical examples; your volumes and call lengths will differ.
Each example estimates billed minutes from lead volume, an assumed connect rate and typical call lengths, then checks it against the plan minimum. For a connect rate, we use 60% as an assumption. For context, on our own platform about 61% of 42,879 outbound calls between May and October 2026 lasted 15 seconds or more. That is a rough proxy for a real connection, not a verified pickup rate, and it came from mixed campaign types; results vary by industry, list quality and time of day.

Example 1: a small coaching institute on Starter
Hypothetical. Say a coaching institute in Pune gets 1,200 enquiries a month from its website and Instagram ads. The agent calls each new enquiry within minutes, in Marathi, Hindi or English.
- About 720 connected first conversations (60%) at around 2 minutes each: 1,440 minutes
- About 300 call-backs at the time the parent asked for, around 1.5 minutes: 450 minutes
- About 500 short pickups (wrong person, "call later"), one pulse each: 250 minutes
- Total: about 2,140 billed minutes, inside Starter's 3,000-minute minimum
Monthly bill: ₹24,000 minimum + ₹2,000 for one number = ₹26,000, plus ₹4,680 GST = ₹30,680. Setup: ₹25,000 + ₹4,500 GST = ₹29,500. First year: ₹3,97,660. That works out to about ₹25.6 per enquiry per month. The 860 or so unused minutes are paid for anyway, so the sensible move is to use them, for example by calling last quarter's unconverted enquiries. Our page on AI calling for coaching institutes shows typical call flows.
Example 2: a two-project real-estate developer on Growth
Hypothetical. A developer with two plotted projects gets 2,500 leads a month from Facebook and Instagram ads into a Google Sheet, and wants results in its CRM (the one integration Growth includes). Each project gets its own agent with its own facts.
- About 1,500 connected conversations at around 2.2 minutes: 3,300 minutes
- About 500 call-backs at around 1.5 minutes: 750 minutes
- About 400 site-visit confirmation calls, one or two pulses each (about 0.75 minutes): 300 minutes
- About 900 short pickups, one pulse each: 450 minutes
- Total: about 4,800 billed minutes, inside Growth's 5,000-minute minimum
Monthly bill: ₹35,000 + ₹4,000 for two numbers = ₹39,000, plus ₹7,020 GST = ₹46,020. Setup: ₹50,000 + ₹9,000 GST = ₹59,000. First year: ₹6,11,240, or about ₹18.4 per lead per month. Our real-estate AI calling page covers the site-visit flow in detail.
Example 3: a multi-city D2C brand on Scale
Hypothetical. A D2C brand runs four agents: COD order confirmation, lead qualification for high-value enquiries, inbound customer calls, and an after-hours line. It connects its order system and CRM (Scale includes two integrations).
- About 7,000 COD confirmation calls, mostly one or two pulses (about 0.6 minutes average): 4,200 minutes
- About 1,500 qualification conversations at around 2 minutes: 3,000 minutes
- About 1,200 inbound calls at around 1.5 minutes: 1,800 minutes
- About 1,600 short pickups, one pulse each: 800 minutes
- Total: about 9,800 billed minutes, inside Scale's 10,000-minute minimum
Monthly bill: ₹65,000 + ₹6,000 for three numbers = ₹71,000, plus ₹12,780 GST = ₹83,780. Setup: ₹1,00,000 + ₹18,000 GST = ₹1,18,000. First year: ₹11,23,360.
| Example (hypothetical) | Plan | Est. billed minutes | Monthly incl. GST | Setup incl. GST | First year incl. GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coaching institute, 1,200 enquiries | Starter | ~2,140 | ₹30,680 | ₹29,500 | ₹3,97,660 |
| Real-estate developer, 2,500 leads | Growth | ~4,800 | ₹46,020 | ₹59,000 | ₹6,11,240 |
| D2C brand, four call types | Scale | ~9,800 | ₹83,780 | ₹1,18,000 | ₹11,23,360 |
If you are registered for GST, ask your CA whether you can claim input tax credit on these invoices; if so, your effective cost is closer to the pre-GST figure.
How does AI calling compare with telecallers and a BPO?
A telecaller in India earns an average of about ₹16,700 a month according to Indeed's 2026 data, before incentives, statutory contributions, equipment and supervision. Outsourced voice agents are quoted per hour or per seat. AI calling is billed per minute of conversation, so compare cost per conversation and per outcome, not salary against subscription.
What does a telecaller really cost?
Indeed India reports an average telemarketer base salary of ₹16,702 a month (2,300 salaries, updated 28 May 2026), with city averages of ₹19,622 in Gurugram and ₹26,664 in Mumbai. AmbitionBox puts telecaller pay between ₹1 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh a year, from freshers to four years' experience.
Base salary is only part of it. Add employer PF and ESI where they apply, incentives, a SIM and calling plan, a CRM seat, a desk, a team lead's time, and the cost of hiring and training replacements when people leave.
Hypothetical comparison. Two telecallers in Gurugram at the Indeed city average cost ₹39,244 a month in base pay. If you add, say, 30% for the extras above (your own number will differ), that is about ₹51,000 a month. Example 2's Growth plan costs ₹46,020 including GST. The money is similar; what you get is different. Two people can hold two conversations at a time during working hours. An AI agent calls every new lead within minutes of it landing, handles inbound calls after hours, and speaks the caller's language, but it will not negotiate a price or build a relationship the way a good salesperson does.
That is why most of our clients use both: the AI makes first contact, qualifies, books the visit or call-back and handles reminders, and people spend their day on interested leads. Our article on AI calling vs telecallers goes deeper.
What does a BPO cost?
Outsourced call centres usually price per agent hour, per dedicated seat per month, or per lead or outcome. A 2026 comparison by Indian cloud-telephony company MyOperator, compiled from published BPO pricing guides, cites ₹500–1,175 per agent hour for live voice handling and ₹1–2 lakh per dedicated agent per month fully loaded. Quotes vary widely with language, shift, volume and contract length, so get at least two quotes in the same format before comparing. Our AI calling vs human BPO comparison lays out the trade-offs.
| Option | How it is priced | What you are buying | Best at |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-house telecallers | Monthly salary + overheads | People's time during shifts | Rapport, negotiation, closing |
| BPO / call centre | Per agent hour, per seat or per lead | Managed human capacity | Large, steady human-led programmes |
| AI calling (managed) | Setup + per-minute minimum + numbers | Calls handled, recorded and reported | Instant first calls, reminders, after-hours, volume |
How does voice AI cost in India compare with global platforms?
Global self-serve voice AI platforms publish rates of roughly $0.05–0.14 per minute for their own layer, about ₹5–14 at October 2026 exchange rates. Several bill the language model, voice and telephony separately, so the full per-minute figure is higher than the headline. None of these figures include building, testing or running the agent for you.
All conversions below use the RBI reference rate of about ₹96.6 per US dollar on 7 October 2026 (as published in MSEI's RBI reference rate archive), rounded.
| Platform (public pricing, Oct 2026) | Listed rate | Approx. ₹ | What else is billed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bland AI, Start plan | $0.14/min talk time | ~₹13.5/min | Transfers $0.05/min; telephony billed separately |
| Bland AI, Build plan | $0.12/min + $299/month | ~₹11.6/min + ~₹28,900/month | Transfers $0.04/min; telephony billed separately |
| Vapi | $0.05/min platform | ~₹4.8/min | Transcription, model, voice and telephony at cost; numbers $2/month (~₹190) |
| Retell AI, basic stack | $0.055 infra + $0.015 voice + $0.0128 model (GPT 4.1 mini) + $0.015 telephony ≈ $0.098/min | ~₹9.5/min | Premium voices $0.04–0.10/min; concurrency beyond 20 calls $8 each/month; numbers $2/month |
Three things stand out. First, the headline is not the bill: on Retell's basic stack, the voice, model and phone layers add roughly three-quarters again to the infrastructure line, premium voices or larger models add more, and Vapi's provider costs sit on top of its $0.05. Second, currency matters: a USD invoice moves with the exchange rate and may carry card or forex charges, and your CA should advise on how GST applies to imported services. Third, these are self-serve tools. They suit teams with engineers who will build, test and tune the agent; the price excludes that labour. Our comparison of pricing models for AI calling explains how per-minute, subscription and outcome-based pricing differ.
Which hidden costs should you watch for?
The costs that surprise buyers are rarely the per-minute rate. They are monthly minimums you do not use, rounding up to full minutes, charges for unanswered or failed dials, number rental, extra agents and integrations, concurrency caps, premium voices, platform subscriptions, USD exchange swings, GST, and your own team's time.
Go through this list with any quote, including ours:
- Minimum commitment. What happens to unused minutes, and how are minutes above the minimum billed?
- Billing increment. Per second, 30-second pulse or full minute? See the table above.
- Unanswered and failed calls. Are they billed? Some self-serve platforms list per-dial fees; Retell's pricing page, for example, shows a batch-call add-on charged per dial.
- Phone numbers. Monthly rental per number, and how many you need for your volume and regions.
- Agents and projects. If you sell several projects or products, each one should have its own agent and facts. Count them before you pick a plan.
- Integrations. CRM, order system, booking calendar. Which are included and which cost extra?
- Concurrency. How many calls can run at once? A burst of 500 leads after an ad goes live needs capacity.
- Premium voices and bigger models. Upgrades can add more per minute than the base rate.
- Platform fees and transfers. Monthly subscriptions and per-minute transfer charges add up.
- WhatsApp follow-up. Messages sent through your own WhatsApp provider (BSP) are billed by that provider.
- Compliance. Promotional calls in India must come from registered 140-series numbers under TRAI's rules, as TRAI's July 2026 clarification confirms. Factor in registration and process, not just minutes.
- Your team's time. Supplying facts, testing calls and following up booked leads all take hours.
How do you build your own AI calling budget?
Start from lead volume, not from a plan. Multiply leads by your expected connect rate and average billed minutes per call type, add call-backs and short pickups, compare the total with plan minimums, then add numbers, extra agents, integrations and GST. Divide by leads to get cost per lead, and set it against what a lead is worth.
- List your call types. New-lead calls, call-backs, confirmations, reminders, inbound, after-hours.
- Count monthly volume for each. Use last quarter's average, not your best month.
- Estimate the connect rate. Use your own call logs if you have them. If not, start with a cautious assumption and replace it after a month of real data.
- Estimate billed minutes per call type, rounding each up to the next 30 seconds.
- Add call-backs and short pickups. They are easy to forget and can be 10–20% of minutes.
- Pick the plan whose minimum fits, then add numbers, extra agents, integrations and GST.
- Work out cost per lead and break-even. Monthly cost divided by the profit from one sale tells you how many extra sales a month cover the bill.
Speed is the main reason the maths can work. In a study of 2,241 US companies published in Harvard Business Review, firms that contacted a web lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as firms that made contact an hour later, as summarised by SmartCompany. That research is from the US and 2011, so treat it as direction, not a forecast for your business. Our AI calling ROI guide walks through payback with worked examples.
Common mistakes when budgeting for AI calling
The usual budgeting mistakes are comparing headline rates instead of full monthly bills, ignoring minimums and billing increments, forgetting call-backs and inbound minutes, comparing against a telecaller's base salary only, and buying a bigger plan than your lead volume needs. Each one makes the decision look better or worse than it is.
- Comparing rates, not bills. Two providers at "₹7 a minute" can differ by thousands of rupees once minimums, numbers and rounding are in.
- Planning for your best month. Budget on average volume; you pay the minimum in quiet months too.
- Forgetting inbound. People call back the number that called them. Those minutes count.
- Salary-only comparisons. A telecaller's base pay leaves out overheads; an AI quote may leave out numbers and GST.
- One agent for everything. Cheaper on paper, and the cause of mixed-up prices between projects.
- No measurement plan. Decide before launch which outcome you will track: booked visits, demos, confirmed orders.

Frequently asked questions
How much does AI calling cost per minute in India?
On DigitalCallers plans the rate is ₹6–8 per minute plus 18% GST, depending on the plan, billed in 30-second pulses with unanswered calls not billed. A two-minute sales conversation costs roughly ₹12–16 and a short confirmation call ₹3–8. Self-serve global platforms list $0.05–0.14 per minute for their own layer, with other components often billed separately.
Is there a setup fee for AI calling?
Most managed AI calling services charge a one-time setup fee to build the agent on your scripts and facts, connect leads and numbers, and test with your team. Ours ranges from ₹25,000 on Starter to ₹2,00,000 on Enterprise, plus GST. Self-serve platforms usually have no setup fee, but your own team does that work instead.
Is AI calling cheaper than hiring telecallers in India?
Per conversation it often is, but the comparison is not like for like. Indeed India reports an average telemarketer salary of about ₹16,700 a month, before incentives, statutory contributions, equipment and supervision. AI calling handles instant first calls, call-backs and after-hours enquiries at volume; people are still better at negotiation and closing. Most teams use both.
What is 30-second pulse billing?
Pulse billing rounds each answered call up to the next 30 seconds instead of the next full minute. A 70-second call is billed as 1.5 minutes rather than 2, and a 20-second call as half a minute. It makes a real difference when many of your calls are short, such as confirmations, reminders and wrong-number pickups.
What hidden costs should I check in an AI calling quote?
Check the monthly minimum and what happens to unused minutes, the billing increment, whether unanswered or failed dials are charged, phone number rental, extra agents and integrations, concurrency limits, premium voice or model surcharges, platform subscriptions, USD billing and exchange rates, GST, and WhatsApp message charges from your own provider.
How many minutes does a small business need for AI calling?
Work it out from your lead volume: leads per month, multiplied by the share you expect to connect, multiplied by average billed minutes per call, plus call-backs and short pickups. A business with about 1,200 enquiries a month and two-minute conversations might use roughly 2,000–2,500 billed minutes, which fits within a 3,000-minute plan.
